During the monsoon, your bone afflictions may increase, making regular functioning difficult. A warm and moist climate can induce dehydration and aggravate discomfort by permitting less fluid collection around the joints. Furthermore, these might aggravate arthritis discomfort. Here are some ways that monsoon can be harsh on your joints.

Why does the weather affect your joints?

Barometric pressure generally falls before it rains. When this happens, there is less air pressure on your body, allowing muscles, tendons, and other tissue around the joints to stretch. The enlargement may strain the joints, putting excessive pressure on them and sometimes causing pain.

Many arthritis patients have increased pains before and during rainy weather. A reduction in pressure frequently precedes cold, wet weather. This decrease in pressure causes previously irritated tissue to expand, increasing discomfort.

Orthopedic surgeons say that many people experience joint pain, muscle stiffness, and injury pain during the rainy season owing to humidity levels, atmospheric pressure, sudden temperature shifts, and precipitation.

It is said that high humidity levels often may thicken the blood, raise blood pressure in the blood vessels, and make your body work harder to pump blood. It causes major discomfort, especially to senior citizens.

Remedies to Monsoon-induced joint pain

Fortunately, several ways will help you reduce the discomfort caused in your joints. Here are some remedies that any orthopedic surgeon would recommend.

  • Regular physical activity- Regular exercise can help with sore joints and muscle cramps. Don’t forget to take regular walks, stretch, and do yoga. However, excessive exercise might be harmful to your joints. It is advisable to contact a physiotherapist to learn which exercises you can perform and which you should avoid because some can aggravate soreness.
  • Vitamin E- An orthopedic surgeon would agree that consuming Vitamin E-rich foods can aid with pain and inflammation relief. Vitamin E is found in nuts, leafy greens, seeds, and fish. It is an antioxidant that fights free radicals and helps protect the body from them.
  • Avoid air conditioners- They will only make your surroundings colder and your pain worse. It is advisable to keep yourself warm. Staying warm is important in controlling joint pain because it increases blood circulation inside the body, lowering related discomfort. Wear a blanket and sip warm tea or soup. Your joints will be less uncomfortable and the chances of you catching a cold will be slimmer.
  • Stay hydrated- Sufficient fluid intake ensures insulation for your joints, reducing aches. Drinking coconut water, fruit juices, ORS, and even plain water will help you stay hydrated and healthy and keep your limbs ache-free.
  • Eating healthy- Choosing fresh fruits and vegetables, which are high in minerals and antioxidants, can help reduce joint discomfort and inflammation. Fruits and vegetables include nutrients, especially vitamin C, that help enhance immunity and prevent illnesses caused by viruses, bacteria, and fungi.
  • Massaging the affected area will improve blood circulation around the joints and reduce swelling, stiffness, and overall discomfort. Using oil for the massage is effective. Make sure your joints are well-rested, especially when they are stiff.

Dr. Ashwini Maichand, an orthopedic surgeon, has opined that there is a close relationship between joint pain and weather changes. Cold weather causes more joint pain.

Reduce sodium intake to control water retention and edema in the body. Excess water retention causes the surrounding tissues to lose their ability to protect your joints. Calcium and a protein-rich diet can also boost your immune system.

Remember to consume flax, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, cottage cheese, and egg whites. You should ask an expert about the foods you should consume or avoid during the monsoon season.

The most prevalent ailment related to joint discomfort is arthritis. As a result, you must have yourself checked for rheumatoid factor, which is determined by a method for detecting if you have rheumatoid arthritis.

Managing Joint Pain

Joint aches during the rainy season can be caused by various underlying conditions, including obesity, illnesses, and poor nutrition. As a result, monitoring your health by getting periodic check-ups, taking recommended medications for underlying disorders such as arthritis, and wearing flat shoes that help avoid joint discomfort is critical. You should be careful about your joint discomfort and address it the best way. Be active throughout the day, eat healthily, get enough sleep at night, and relax when required.

Exercise to keep your joints healthy, but don’t overdo it. Listen to your body and live a healthy lifestyle. Using these tips, you will be able to enjoy the monsoons without bothering about your joint pain.
