Sexually transmitted infections in the UK seen a 32% drop in 2020. However, there was also a 25% drop in sexual health screenings which include chlamydia, HIV, and gonorrhoea tests. These figures can be seen according to the Government website which raises a concern regarding sexually active individuals avoiding necessary screening tests. It is important to acknowledge that there is a continuous stigma surrounding sexual health and STI’s, which is why people should be aware that there are numerous types of treatment available to them.

If you find yourself faced with a positive STI test result, consult your physician/sexual health clinic where they will discuss the best routes for treatment.

Treatment Process

Every STI may have a different course of treatment. Treatment can also depend on how serious the infection is, and how long it has been present within the body. Not to worry, the majority of infections subside with treatment in 3-5 days. Here are some methods you should be aware of:

Antibiotics

This class of medicine is incredibly common for curing many infections and illnesses. Antibiotics are strong drugs that aids your body in fighting infection and can lessen symptoms within a few days. Antibiotics are used to treat agents like Treponema pallidum and Neisseria gonorrhoea which cause syphilis and gonorrhoea. Commonly, penicillin and quinolones are the best in the business to tackle invading microbes.

It is always important that you take your antibiotics for the exact time instructed by your doctor/health professional.

Antiviral Drugs

Viruses are often borderline between living and non-living cells. Their high mutation rate has become a difficult issue for scientists and medical researchers to cure. Some viral diseases can be cured via anti-viral drugs, but they are not guaranteed to fully diminish these microbes. These drugs suppress the virus’s replication process, but do not kill it. Therefore, a person on anti-viral therapy can still transmit to other partners.  visit here

Vaccines

Vaccines are weakened germs used to stimulate the immune response to produce antibodies. Vaccines are used as a preventative measure rather than treating a disease. Vaccines are highly effective against viral diseased like hepatitis B and C. After depletion of the defensive cells, the person is likely to get the disease after exposure. This is why it may be recommended to take shots of the vaccine at regular intervals.

Surgical Intervention

In some cases, medical surgical procedures may be a preferred method in the treatment of sexually transmitted infections and diseases. This may be due to the symptoms it has left on the body. For example, surgery to remove HPV warts which can be via burning, freezing or surgically removing them. However, most unfortunate symptoms pass within a few days after orally consuming medication.

Final Words

In order to break the stigma around STI’s and sexual health, it is important people are aware of the treatment that is available to them if they ever find themselves facing a positive test result. Many feel shame, and may fear the treatment procedures to cure the infection. However, treatment is often quick, easy, and discrete.
