How Long Does it Take to Complete a Full Sleep Cycle and How to Implement It?

Sleeping is an essential part of our life. After a long day at work, sleep gives us the rest that we need. If you feel tired all the time, then you have to think about your sleep cycle. Not having enough knowledge about sleep may stop you from having quality sleep.

You may not be able to sleep much because of a lack of comfort. For that, you can get a memory foam mattress. If you know how long it takes to complete a full sleep cycle, you can use the knowledge for good. So let’s gather some knowledge about this.

What is the sleep cycle?
A sleeping pattern that will last 90 minutes moving through five stages is called the sleep cycle. The first three-stage is called Non-rapid eye movement (NREM), and the last stage is called Rapid eye movement (REM).

NREM sleep:
It is the lightest stage of sleep where you can wake up immediately. In this stage muscle activities are less and eyes do not move frequently. But after a long day at work, your body starts to retain its usual strength in this stage.

REM sleep:
 Rapid eye movements are noticed much in this stage. You are in the deepest sleeping stage at this time. You also dream at this point. Your muscles are almost paralyzed at this time, but heart and diaphragm continue to function. 

What is the sleep cycle calculator?
Your sleep depends on the situation of your life and work. But you might not know the best time for your sleep to wake up fresh. For this, you might want to calculate when to sleep and wake up. It is also good for you to take a power nap at any time. You can use a sleep calculator to know how much sleep you need every time.

Now you know what is the sleep cycle calculator, You are ready for using sleep cycles for better sleep. Now follow these simple steps to improve your sleep.

  • Measure the length of the sleep cycle:

 Try to know your perfect time to wake up for cycles. Three or four cycles a day is enough for an adult. A 90-minute rule is not for everyone. Try what time is best for you. People claim that they woke every 70 minutes.

Divide your sleep
 If you think that “I will sleep for four-cycle a day at night only and I am good to go”. Then you are wrong. You need to divide your sleep into cycles. Or at least leave one cycle for daytime. Because if you wake up in the morning after fully rested, you will have 19 hours of a long day ahead. It is very tiring. So leave a cycle of sleep for the day and re-energize your body for starting again as a champion.

How to use the rule of 90 minutes
We have learned already our sleep follows a pattern of 90 minutes. If you follow this 90 minutes rule, then it will change your life. The secret here is you do not have to think about the amount of sleep you are getting. The number is important here.

Turn over every 90 minutes for multiple times. As we are not robots, we will not be able to follow the exact rule. For some people, it is maybe an 80 or 70-minute cycle.

 Try to naturally wake up by mental note or sleep calculator which may seem to be ridiculous at first but trust me it will be worth it. The worst thing will be waking up in the middle of a sleep cycle. For some time it will be tough for your body to take. Once you get used to this, it will be the best decision of your life.
