Tarpaulins are coming in all sizes, made of various strong materials. You can get water-resistant sheets made of polyvinyl chloride and Polyethylene. There are also thick canvas tarps available that are more flexible and protect your valuables from unforgiving weather conditions. There are also heavy-duty PVC tarps used largely in many industries to protect the equipment against harsh elements. Heavy-duty PVC tarps are also used in the alternative energy industry to protect from dirt, mud, fire, and insulation.

Buying heavy-duty waterproof tarps

There are some significant differences between water-resistant and waterproof materials. These serve different purposes. The PVC tarps are largely waterproof, which means that it will not absorb water even if you submerge it in water for long. You can easily wipe clean these types of tarps with water. If you want to get adequate protection from heavy snow or rain, then PVC heavy-duty tarps are ideal. PVC tarps are also resistant to mold and mildew. It also will not rot easily.

However, the canvas is a water-resistant material, which can keep water away from the equipment it covers for a limited time. However, the canvas can get soaked in water, which means it not an ideal choice as a protective cover if you want to cover your valuables left in heavy rain or snow for a longer period.

Thickness of tarps

When it comes to the size, you can get tarps in varying sizes like 10x10 tarp, 12x12 tarp, 15x15 tarp, 20x20 tarp, and more varieties.  Along with the dimensions, you need to consider the thickness also of the tarp you choose. To resist harsh environmental harms like heavy snowfall and rain, you need to get the heaviest duty thick tarps.

For industrial purposes, you may have to choose tarps ranging from 0.10mm to 0.40mm thick. However, the same kind of thickness in the case of PVC tarps is much stronger than canvas. There are many lighter tarps also available, which are easy to handle and more flexible. Polyethylene is an example of lightweight tarps, which can be used for household needs etc.

Do the tarps need insulation?

Suppose your need for tarps is to protect energy assets like transformers or batteries, which needed to be kept safe from extreme weather conditions. In that case, it is ideal to choose PVC heavy-duty tarpaulin, which comes with additional insulation padding at one side. Compared to other materials, PVC tarpaulins tend to perform better in lower temperatures than -40 Fahrenheit. Having insulation can enhance the performance of PVC tarpaulins in many typical industrial usages.

You can find all sizes and materials of tarpaulin by searching online at the stores. However, while buying online, always look for reliable brands. There may also be counterfeit products from local manufacturers that come at a lower price but may not serve your purpose to offer safe protection to your valuables. Look for the product features, comparisons, and user reviews to identify the top choices available.
